This is painted from a photo that I took in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. It is very close to where my sister lives. What I loved about this scene was the way the barn and silos were built into the hillside. I actually changed some of the coloring of the scene making it a much warmer landscape. It was very green at this time. I like the color combinations here much better. I was still loose here with the dragging of the brush.

Last night I went to the unveiling of T. Cook’s restaurant at the Royal Palms Resort, an old historic property in Phoenix. Lots of media people there and three artists including myself set up working, or least pretending for a while. It was so dark in there I really had no idea what colors I was using. I knew the lighting wouldn’t be good (although not that bad) so I took a painting that was blocked in with me. On the way I realized that I had forgotten my palette. I took my soltek easel with me since it was a larger painting. (This missing palette is another story, I do need to buy another).

I picked up a couple of paintings at the photographer’s and asked her for a piece of cardboard and saran wrap. That got me through the night. Anyway, it was a great event, lots of exciting things to see and good food and drinks. Below is the painting that I worked on. The red barn above will be another painting for a larger size. I will probably concentrate on the texture of the barn. That could be interesting.
